2017 Mega Conference
The 2017 Mega Conference, Nevada’s Schools – from Ready to Action – Investments in Innovation, will be held May 5 – 7, 2017, at Harvey’s Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe, at Stateline and will offer quality professional develop- ment on how to provide effective instruction using innovative practices in the classroom and school setting.
This year’s opening keynote speaker will be Sonia Manzano. For over 30 years, Sonia Manzano inspired, educated, and delighted children and families as “Maria” on Sesame Street. Named among the “25 Greatest Latino Role Models Ever” by Latina Magazine, Manzano broke ground as one of the first Hispanic characters on national television. Throughout her career, she has continued to contribute to enriching diversity on television, on the stage, and in the educational realm. A first generation American of Latin descent, Manzano’s tale is one of perseverance and courage as she over- came countless obstacles to become one of the most influential Latinas in television.
Additional keynote presentations and breakout sessions will be offered that focus on Inclusive Practices (3-21), Literacy by 3, Improved Graduation Rates, Effective Reading Practices, Post-Secondary Readiness & Success, Technological Sup- port for Learning, Differentiated and Brain Research Based Instruction, and School Climate & Culture. Presenters will include educators from across the state and the nation, including the renowned International Center for Leadership in Education (ICLE).
Registration fees are $125/person ($100 Early Bird before April 11, 2017) and will open February 1st, 2017 (tentative). The first 100 registrants will receive a copy of Sonia Manzano’s book, Becoming Maria: Love and Chaos in the South Bronx.
A limited number of sleeping rooms are available at Harvey’s at the special conference rate of $91/night for Thursday and Friday nights and $131/night on Satur- day night plus tax and resort fee.
