Michael L. Kamil


Michael L. Kamil is Professor Emeritus, in the Graduate School of Education at Stanford University.  His research and scholarship has focused on technology, literacy and language.  He currently consults for software companies on development and implementation of software for language, literacy, and science on platforms from the web to handheld devices.

He was a member of the Writing Team for the United States Common Core State Standards.  He has been a consultant for states, districts, and schools on various topics in literacy.  He was a member of the United States National Reading Panel, chairing the committees on vocabulary, comprehension, technology, and professional development.  He chaired the Planning Committee for the 2009 National Assessment of Educational Progress Reading Framework.  He was a member of the National Literacy Panel on Language Minority Children and Youth.  He served on the Steering Committee for the United States administration of PISA   He is currently a consultant for the World Bank for READ-Vietnam, a project to revise the national curriculum for Vietnam. He was also Director of the Stanford University Learning Design and Technology Program.
